Sohini Ray, PhD, is a classical Manipuri dancer and founder of Manipuri Dance Visions, a training and research institute of Manipuri dance. She is a rare combination of an expert performer and a prolific scholar, as well as the recipient of the prestigious Lester Horton award, among other awards, grants, and fellowships. In her childhood, Sohini was considered a child prodigy by the legendary Manipuri dance maestro Guru Bipin Singh and trained with him and his senior disciples for more than 25 years.
