Ayurvedic Baked Pear Recipe

This simple baked pear dish is perfect for autumn and early winter, when Vata dosha is high and the body craves warmth and moisture. Soft, sweet pears and raisins gently nourish and hydrate the tissues, while cinnamon kindles digestion and honey adds a touch of balancing warmth.

Comforting, grounding, easy to digest, and to make — take this to your next holiday potluck and share the love.

BAKED PEARS

Makes 4 servings.

Ingredients:

  • 4 ripe pears (not Asian pears)
  • 2/3 cup raisins
  • 1/3 cup water or orange juice
  • Cinnamon
  • Honey (to serve)

Preheat the oven to 350ºF.

Halve the pears lengthwise. Remove the stem and the seeds, leaving a small hollow in each half. Place the pear halves in a baking dish, with the hollow facing up. Place raisins into the hollow of each pear. Pour the orange juice or water over the them. Sprinkle with cinnamon. Cover and bake until tender, about one hour. Let cool to lukewarm. Drizzle with a little honey before serving (or serve with fresh whipped cream.)
