I am looking forward to being back in the sacred beauty and healing space of the ashram this November and wanted to share a little about Energy Healing and the ways it has impacted my life so that it may inspire others to experience deep change.

Energy healing has changed my life in a profound way, shifting me from being a once isolated and somewhat depressed individual to being a delightfully happy father, husband, successful author and teacher offering workshops at some of the worlds premier spiritual retreat centers. This change did not happen overnight, but did happen radically and in ways that are measurable. It began in 1993 when I first became interested in Reiki, which is the world’s most popular form of energy healing, a form of healing that can be traced back to a Japanese mystic named Mikao Usui who lived from 1865 to 1926. The word Reiki is most commonly translated as Universal Life Force Energy, but can also be translated from Japanese as Divine Life Force Energy. I personally prefer the later translation is more appropriate, since the energy truly seems to come from a higher source.

My journey with Reiki accelerated my own healing process, helping me overcome childhood trauma that traditional therapy seemed to mitigate but never fully heal. Part of that Reiki healing process involved sending healing in waves to clear energetic cords between me and those who had mistreated me when I was an innocent child. By 1995 I was a Reiki master, teaching Reiki to students in San Francisco, but mostly using it for self healing and spiritual exploration.

My journey with energy healing deepened during my years in San Francisco as I met an elderly Hawaiian shaman who taught me Huna shamanic practices for connecting with my Higher Self. I began to wonder what might happen if I blended some of these shamanic techniques with Reiki, would that somehow widen the spectrum of possibility. After working on fusing these techniques I found the answer to my question was a resounding yes. These higher-self Reiki techniques, which I plan to teach and share during the Yoga and Energy Healing Retreat at Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat in the Bahamas, are easy to learn and yet very powerful.

What I enjoy most about these higher-self Reiki techniques are how simple it is to use them, as well as how powerful they can be in terms of the end results, clearing deep trauma from the past, even clearing karma from past lives. But my energy healing journey did not end with these higher-self Reiki techniques, in fact my journey was just beginning. From 2001 through 2007, I underwent an extensive period of study that included traveling to some of the world’s most powerful sacred sites such as the Buddhist temples of Angkor Wat in Cambodia, the sacred volcanos of Bali, and the surrounding Hindu temples on that magical island, also spending time in the King’s Chamber of the Great Pyramid of Egypt. In the summer of 2007, while taking an extensive energy healing training on the island of Majorca in Spain, I had a profound mystical experience and was shown a new and unknown form of energy healing I call Magical Awakening. This form is one I tend to use the most now, and it has been publicly endorsed by some of the clients I work with in Hollywood including Carrie Ann Inaba from ABC’s Dancing With the Stars.

Magical Awakening is a playful form of energy healing that draws upon Celtic shamanic practices. It is also the subject of my most recent book The Wizards Guide to Energy Healing: Introducing the Divine Healing Secrets of Merlin. One of the things I enjoy most about this form is the playful and creative range it offers to the healer, a perfect example being a healing where the practitioner can energetically recreate the sense of a sacred geometric healing object surrounding you. During my time at Sivananda Ashram I plan to share a wide range of teaching and experiential healings, exploring Reiki, Magical Awakening, and a few other modalities to give a sense of that Divine Rainbow of energy healing possibilities.
