Likhita Japa: Writing the Divine Name

In the stillness that emerges through writing the Divine Name, the practice becomes more than writing. The outer gesture gradually turns inward: repetition gathers the mind, deepens devotion, and brings awareness toward the living presence of the mantra within. In this inward quiet, we begin to turn away from what is constantly changing and toward the deeper Self that Vedanta teaches is our true nature.

Likhita Japa is the devotional practice of writing a mantra or Divine Name again and again, allowing the hand, eyes, and mind to become absorbed in a single sacred focus. Through this concentrated repetition, the act of writing becomes a prayer, meditation, and offering. Rooted in Swami Sivananda’s teachings on Japa, this workshop offers an opportunity to explore Likhita Japa and practice together in a spirit of concentration, devotion, and remembrance of the Divine.
