2017-2018 Welcome from Swami Swaroopananda
This season marks the 50-year anniversary of the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat. Since 1968, the ashram has served the mission of our founder and Guru, Swami Vishnudevananda, and our Master Swami Sivananda — by spreading peace, health, and joy through the study and practice of yoga and Vedanta.
In the ashram’s 50 years in the beautiful Bahamas, we have seen the exponential expansion of yoga in the world, as Swami Vishnudevananda predicted. When he founded the Sivananda Yoga Teacher Training Course in 1969, he envisioned millions of people throughout the world practicing yoga, an ambitious idea at that time. Now there are not only millions of people practicing yoga, but there are more than 42,000 international students who have graduated from the Teacher Training Course worldwide.
The ashram is a center of diverse learning, offering many doorways and opportunities to elevate consciousness. We invite a wide range of presenters — spiritual leaders, yoga teachers, healers, scientists, health and medical practitioners, sacred artists and performers — to share their unique teachings. Swami Vishnudevananda believed in a core principle of Unity in Diversity, and we continue this mission through the multitude of educational and inspirational programs.
Our vision is to serve as an ever-growing beacon of light for humanity. It is with deep gratitude that we acknowledge the many reflectors of light who have visited the ashram from around the world: yoga vacationers, course students, presenters, yoga teacher trainees, and Karma Yogis — shining brightly, and uplifting the collective consciousness. We are also grateful to our Bahamian guests and Karma Yogis who visit us regularly, attending workshops, yoga classes, and satsangs and serving at the ashram.
With the world currently experiencing challenging times, there is an even greater need for yoga and spiritual teachings. Hope for the future lies in the expansion of the light within each of us, as we serve each other selflessly, with love and joy. Through individual transformation, we can raise the consciousness of humanity.
I warmly invite you to join us in the Bahamas for a season of joy, beauty, and wisdom. Take a yoga vacation, immerse in the Teacher Training Course, attend a course or event with one of our distinguished presenters, or join our residential study program. Contribute to creating a bright future for all, by finding light and inner peace within yourself
Om Shanti, Om Peace
