Resting Deeply with Anne Douglas: Presenter Spotlight Q&A

Please share what you do:
I travel internationally to offer iRest Yoga Nidra trainings, retreats, and workshops. I have been teaching for more than 30 years and have a thriving Yoga Therapy practice.

Why do you do what you do?
It is my greatest joy to have even the smallest impact on someone’s well being or spiritual insight. And perhaps they then pass it on to others. It is like lighting candles with candles…sharing the flame of light.

What are you currently fascinated by in your work?
I am deeply struck by the profundity of healing that can happen by simple, open, unconditional presence. Within the effects of this work, it feels like an opening to the essential matrix of life and consciousness — infinitely and eternally whole and perfect. It feels as though all imperfections dissolve, like mud that sits at the bottom of a glass being filled by pure water … pure source.

How did you come to your path? Any aha moments or key teachers?
I have had the great fortune and privilege to study with Dr. Richard Miller for more than 20 years. He is a brilliant teacher, kind soul, and awake. I have had so many profound insights through his teachings and presence, but the most significant is the recognition of our essential nature as perfect and complete. To believe otherwise, I think, is the greatest source of suffering.

What book(s) are you currently reading?
While I usually have several books at my bedside, these days I am content in reading the book of my own body and heart. I begin by flipping through the “pages” of sensation or sentiment to see which part of me wants to be “read” and unconditionally met in any given moment. It is a fabulous read! Very inspiring and hard to put down. I feel so refreshed afterward.

And …
What is one surprising thing about the experience of teaching at the Sivananda Yoga Retreat?

I absolutely LOVE the evening programs full of excellent speakers, presenters, and musicians. It is the cherry on top of the Sivananda Bahamas cake! I can’t wait to have more!
