John Kelly, PhD, is the Elizabeth R. Spallin Associate Professor of Psychiatry in Addiction Medicine at Harvard Medical School. The first-ever endowed professor in addiction medicine at Harvard, he is an expert in both addiction treatment and recovery. John is is the founder and director of the Recovery Research Institute at the Massachusetts General Hospital, and Associate Director of the Center for Addiction Medicine.
Serving on numerous scientific advisory boards and as a consultant to United States federal agencies and foreign governments, John’s work highlights the mechanisms of behavior change and the effects of discrimination toward individuals suffering from substance use disorders.
With more than two decades of research, John has published more than 140 peer-reviewed articles, reviews, and chapters in the field of addiction science. He is also an associate editor for several academic journals and the blogger of Addiction & Recovery 101 for Psychology Today.
