Yoga Meets Healthcare

Adapting Yoga for Common Medical Conditions

Angela Gallagher

Yoga Meets Healthcare bridges the traditions of classical yoga with nearly three decades of real-world experience integrating yoga into modern healthcare. Drawing upon Angela Gallagher’s 26 years of developing and teaching yoga programs within a large healthcare system as well as her published research, healthcare leadership education and 40 years of study in the Sivananda tradition, this training brings together traditional yoga, evidence-informed healthcare practice, and practical clinical experience.

As yoga becomes increasingly integrated into healthcare practice, more physicians are referring patients to yoga for support with chronic pain, cancer recovery, pregnancy, anxiety, and other health conditions. Many yoga teachers welcome these students but have received little formal training in adapting yoga safely and confidently while remaining within their scope of practice.

This program is suitable for:

• Yoga teachers and yoga teacher trainees
• Healthcare and allied health professionals interested in integrating yoga into healthcare settings
• Caregivers, wellness educators, and community leaders
• Anyone interested in making yoga more accessible and inclusive

Participants will learn to:
• Recognize common medical conditions encountered in yoga classes
• Understand what modifications are appropriate
• Adapt classical yoga practices safely
• Communicate confidently with students referred by healthcare providers
• Maintain necessary scope of practice
• Know when referral back to healthcare provider is appropriate

Participants will learn through discussion, case examples, demonstration, and hands-on practice to develop practical skills they can apply to real people in real-world situations. Yoga Meets Healthcare creates an informed environment helping to make yoga safer, and more accessible for individuals whose health needs may require adaptation beyond a traditional yoga class.

This three-day training also provides 9 Yoga Alliance Continuing Education hours (included in tuition) toward the 30-hour requirement for Registered Yoga Teachers every three years.

We suggest you arrive at least one day prior to the start of this course and stay until at least one day after the course ends for the optimal experience.
