The Yoga of Gospel Music

Ken Whiteley

Ken Whiteley, an award-winning singer, musician, songwriter, record producer and Sivananda Yoga teacher invites you to join him on a heartwarming journey into the world of traditional gospel music. With a rich tapestry of accolades and a profound love for this musical genre, Ken’s aim is to make this experience accessible to all.

Together, we will use the power of music to unlock our hearts and bask in the redemptive power of spiritual song. Our primary focus is on fostering a sense of participation and connection. The gospel music we will explore features lyrics that are easily embraced by people from all walks of life, allowing everyone to revel in the invigorating rhythms and soul-stirring melodies of this genre. Whether you’re a seasoned vocalist or someone who has yet to discover their singing voice, you are wholeheartedly welcomed to partake in this deeply moving form of devotional singing, akin to the practice of Bhakti yoga.

A professional musician since the age of 14, Ken has sung gospel music with the Blind Boys of Alabama, Nikki D, & the Sisters of Thunder, the Georgia Sea Island Singers, Pete Seeger, Ladysmith Black Mombasso and many others. He has sung in churches of almost every denomination, synagogues, folk festivals, concert halls, social justice rallies and yoga ashrams.

Offered as 2 workshops and 2 satsangs (subject to change).

The presentations associated with this Yoga Vacation Program begin with an 8pm satsang on the first day of the program and conclude with a 90-minute noon workshop on the last day of the program.  Click here to read more about the Yoga Vacation Program details and view the ashram schedule for yoga classes and meals during your stay. We suggest you arrive at least one day prior to the start of your program for the optimal experience.

Ken Whiteley has made 30 recordings and performed all across North America over a long and varied career. He has won a Canadian Folk Music Award, a Genie Award for Best Song in a Canadian film and Lifetime Achievement Awards from Folk Music Ontario and the Mariposa Folk Festival. He has lead gospel singing workshops at countless festivals and across Canada. Ken has been coming to the ashram for over a decade, always creating blessed music.
