Cultivating Gratitude According to the Yogic Teachings

Bhargavi Chaitanya

While caught up in the details of daily life, it’s easy to lose sight of what’s truly important. Responsibilities of jobs, families, money, and day-to-day pressures can leave us feeling burned out and focused on what we wish were different — rather than what’s already perfect. When we forget what truly matters, we lose our sense of gratitude for the abundance we already have.

From a yogic perspective, gratitude is aligned with the path of devotion. Gratitude is not only the mere noticing of the bounty that’s already present in our lives, but it invites appreciation and awe for the wondrous influences beyond our own will. It reminds us of the gifts that we receive each moment … just by being. By engaging in gratitude practices that guide our attention to beauty and abundance, the more we remember to be thankful for it.

Gratitude is also centered around sharing, which relates to the yogic practice of selfless service. The more we feel fully cared for in our own lives, the easier it becomes to selflessly serve those in need. By practicing gratitude, we invite more blessings into our own lives and the lives of others. In this special season of gratitude, you’re invited to come and cultivate this profound state of reflection into your own heart.
