Yoga is a path for healing, optimal wellness, mental peace, transformation, and spiritual growth that can benefit everyone, regardless of physical abilities. Chair Yoga is a useful way to adapt yoga so that everyone can benefit.

In this course, you will learn how to make yoga accessible to seniors, persons with disabilities or limited mobility, the chronically ill, and those recovering from injuries.

You will learn to teach and offer:

  • Modified yoga postures in chairs
  • Chair modifications in mixed level classes (standing and sitting)
  • Private chair yoga sessions
  • Breathing, chanting, and meditation in chairs.

You will also learn about the business and marketing of Chair Yoga.

Who should take the course: This course is for yoga teachers, nurses, PT’s, MD’s, OT’s, caregivers, and for those practitioners with experience who would like to learn Chair Yoga to have a more in-depth understanding of the practice.

This training includes a full 155-page PDF reference manual, and you will also receive an amended printed manual of the most important information during your time at the ashram.

Stacie Dooreck (Saraswati) is the creator of SunLight Chair Yoga and author of SunLight Chair Yoga: Yoga for Everyone! and offers Chair Yoga teacher trainings at Sivananda ashrams in the U.S. and The Bahamas. A Sivananda Yoga instructor since 1995, she is also a certified Gentle Integral, Kundalini, and prenatal yoga teacher. Stacie has been implementing yoga programs in health clubs, senior homes, hospitals, and corporations since 1994.

Your course schedule has been designed by the presenter to provide a holistic educational experience, and includes course presentation time, meal times, and free time for you to enjoy the beach and the grounds and participate in the ashram’s daily programs. Lines in bold type indicate required course times.

Morning and Evening Satsang: community gatherings for meditation, chanting & teachings; sometimes a silent beach walk.
Yoga Asana & Pranayama Classes: available on outdoor ocean and bayfront platforms (beginner and intermediate levels offered twice daily).
