Being at Home with Om

Lessons from the Mandukya Upanishad

Swamini Svatmavidyananda Saraswati

The Mandukya Upanishad is one of the shortest yet most profound of all the Upanishads. In just twelve mantras, it reveals a complete vision of nondual truth: that the Self (Ātman) is none other than Om, the sacred syllable that pervades all experience. To know Om is to know oneself as whole, limitless, and ever free.

In this series of contemplative talks, we will explore how the Mandukya Upanishad unfolds the identity between the individual, the universe, and the Divine. Through a precise examination of the three states of experience—waking, dreaming, and deep sleep—the Upanishad points beyond them to Turiya, the ever-present awareness that is our true nature. This teaching gently but radically dissolves the sense of separation that binds us to limitation, fear, and seeking.

Rather than presenting Om as merely a sound or symbol, the Mandukya reveals it as a direct pointer to the Self. We will see how the letters A, U, and M, along with the silence that follows, map the totality of experience and culminate in nondual understanding.

These talks are an invitation to recognize what is already true: that you are not a fragmented individual striving to become whole, but awareness itself—complete, unchanging, and at home in all states of life. Rooted in the Advaita Vedanta tradition, this program is suitable for sincere seekers wishing to deepen their understanding through reflection, listening, and quiet inquiry into the meaning of Om.

Offered as 11 satsangs and 6 workshops (subject to change).

The presentations associated with this Yoga Vacation Program begin with an 8pm satsang on the first day of the program and conclude with an 8pm satsang on the last day of the program.  Click here to read more about the Yoga Vacation Program details and view the ashram schedule for yoga classes and meals during your stay.
