Autumn Renewal and Detox: Cooling the Fire, Calming the Wind

A Five-Day Ayurvedic Retreat with Acharya Shunya and Chef Sanjai

Acharya Shunya and Chef Sanjai
Tuition: $795

After several years of offering the Spring Ayurvedic Detox at theAshram, many participants began asking for a retreat to address the imbalances that arise after the heat of summer.

According to Ayurveda, late summer and early autumn often leave the body carrying excess heat in the blood and liver, while the changing winds of the season begin to disturb the nervous system. The result may appear as inflammation, restlessness, irregular digestion, disturbed sleep, or emotional irritability.

This five-day immersion offers a gentle seasonal reset. Through nourishing foods, daily rhythm, and simple Ayurvedic practices, participants learn how to cool internal heat, support digestion, calm the nervous system, and restore balance as the seasons turn.

What This Retreat Helps Address:

As summer ends, many people begin to notice signs that their bodies and nervous systems have become overheated or overstimulated. Ayurveda understands these patterns as a seasonal imbalance of pitta and vata.

Participants often come to this retreat experiencing things such as:

• inflammation in the body
• acid reflux or digestive irritation
• skin flare-ups such as rashes, acne, or eczema
• headaches or eye strain
• irritability or emotional intensity
• disturbed sleep
• nervous system fatigue or restlessness
• irregular digestion, reflux, or bloating

Through seasonal foods, simple Ayurvedic practices, yoga, and rest, this retreat helps the body settle and restore balance.

Participants learn how to support:

• healthier digestion
• calmer sleep
• reduced inflammation
• steadier energy
• a quieter and more balanced nervous system

Daily Rhythm at the Ashram

Each day unfolds within the peaceful rhythm of the ashram environment and includes:

• Morning yoga and meditation
• Nourishing Ayurvedic meals: Lunch, dinner, and a healing snack
• Time for rest, ocean walks, and reflection
• Afternoon yoga practice
• Teachings and discussions on Ayurveda and seasonal living

Ayurvedic Cooking with Chef Sanjai – At the heart of the retreat is the kitchen.

Chef Sanjai prepares a sequence of balancing seasonal meals designed specifically to pacify pitta and vata. These foods are warm, light, and nourishing, supporting digestion while gently cooling excess heat.

After lunch each day, Chef Sanjai offers relaxed cooking demonstrations where participants learn how these meals are prepared.

These sessions feature:

• Traditional recipes from family and lineage kitchens
• Seasonal detox soups and broths with unique ingredients such as alevera candy, rose laddoo
• Cooling vegetable preparations
• Digestive herbal drinks
• Simple meals that can be recreated easily at home

Many of the recipes shared during the retreat come from householder lineage traditions rather than published cookbooks, reflecting the living practice of Ayurveda passed down through generations.

Evening Healing Circles

Each evening after dinner, participants gather for a quiet healing circle with Acharya Shunya.

These gatherings provide a gentle space for reflection, questions, and shared insights that often arise during a period of cleansing and renewal.

The circles support:

• emotional release
• integration of the retreat experience
• deeper connection with others on the path

Satsang: The Spiritual Dimension

Participants may also choose to attend the traditional late-evening meditation, chant, and wisdom session offered at the ashram. The soft repetition of sacred sound often serves as a beautiful bridge from the day’s activity to restful sleep.

These simple evening moments help the nervous system settle, allowing the body to absorb the retreat’s nourishment before the night’s rest.

We suggest you arrive at least one day prior to the start of this course and stay until at least one day after the course ends for the optimal experience.

Acharya Shunya and Chef Sanjai have shared a life of teaching, cooking, and spiritual service together for more than twenty-five years. As husband and wife, they have dedicated the last two decades to bringing the wisdom of Ayurveda, yoga, and the Vedic tradition to students around the world.

Together, they co-created Vedika Global, a nonprofit organization devoted to preserving and sharing the living traditions of Ayurveda and Vedic wisdom. Through retreats, courses, and teachings offered internationally and online, they guide students in rediscovering how ancient knowledge can support health, balance, and inner clarity in modern life.

Acharya Shunya is a teacher of Vedic wisdom and Ayurveda, raised in a family lineage of spiritual teachers and healers in Ayodhya, India. She is the author of Ayurveda Lifestyle Wisdom, a widely respected guide to bringing Ayurvedic principles into everyday living. Her teachings weave together Ayurveda, yoga, and Advaita Vedanta, helping students understand how digestion, daily rhythm, breath, and awareness contribute to true well-being.

Chef Sanjai brings these teachings into the kitchen. Through decades of study and practice, he has translated classical Ayurvedic knowledge into practical cooking methods that support digestion, vitality, and seasonal balance. Over the years, he has taught thousands of students how to prepare nourishing Ayurvedic meals and has developed and shared more than two thousand recipes inspired by traditional household kitchens and classical teachings.

Together, Acharya Shunya and Chef Sanjai offer a rare integration of wisdom and practice. In their retreats and workshops, philosophy and food meet naturally. Students learn not only the principles of Ayurveda, but how to live them through the rhythms of daily life, the preparation of meals, and the cultivation of awareness.
