Make a Joyful Noise

Singing for Health and Wholeness

Helen Folsom

A little bit Science and a little bit Soul!

From Raga to Round, Folk to Funk, Sacred to Silly, experience the power of your own voice and taste the familiar and exotic flavors of the music all around you – ocean, river, earth, sky.

  • Learn how to benefit from the healing effects of using your voice.
  • Enjoy a relaxed atmosphere of playful exploration.
  • Branch out and discover greater enjoyment in OPM (other people’s music).
  • Did we mention the Bija Mantras? Those remarkable sound forms will beincluded!

Singing is an ancient art and yet the why we humans sing remains a great
mystery. There is no solid finding that accounts for ‘why we sing’, but intriguing scientific evidence about what happens to us and inside us when we sing. You do not have to consider yourself a singer to enjoy this class. We welcome everyone at any level to dive in and make noise (joyfully). We will be singing songs from many cultures.

Helen Folsom has a Master’s Degree in Music Education and a boatload of favorite songs. She made her singing debut at the age of 5 in kindergarten as one of the Four-and-Twenty Blackbirds Baked in a Pie. Helen is a longtime presenter at Sivananda Ashram and works in the world as a Cell-Level Healing Facilitator using song in the context of methods and practices developed by Joyce Hawkes, PhD. Helen is an ordained Interfaith Minister, with deep respect for the faith traditions
of the world. Helen’s passion for the way song awakens soul to merge cultures and traditions is exhilarating. She genuinely rejoices in the power and gifts of each voice, and cannot wait to celebrate yours.

Offered as 1 satsang and 3 workshops (subject to change).

The presentations associated with this Yoga Vacation Program begin with an 8pm satsang on the first day of the program and conclude with a 90-minute 2pm workshop on the last day of the program.  Click here to read more about the Yoga Vacation Program details and view the ashram schedule for yoga classes and meals during your stay. We suggest you arrive at least one day prior to the start of your program for the optimal experience.
